The Zia Education Department respects, supports and encourages the use of culture and language in the classroom. The Pueblo of Zia Language Program uses general education classroom time to teach the Zia language and culture to both youth and adults. The program instructors also provide lessons to the Early Childhood Center (childcare) and the Zia Head Start.
The Pueblo of Zia Keres Language and Culture program in partnership with local schools will offer language & culture lessons in the classroom.
The Zia Language & Culture program will be utilized in both the intervention and prevention process of the Connection Program. As part of the preventive work, the Zia Language & Culture Program will include topics in their classes that will assist students in self identifying with who they are, and where they come from.
Topics such as family, respect, love, strength and perseverance will be taught by the Language Team utilizing the history of the Zia Pueblo people. The Community is encouraged to enroll in the Zia Language and Culture Program which will provide lessons in culture, language, arts and crafts throughout the Academic Year.
